Miller-Meeks to Army Secretary Driscoll: The United States Needs Strong Support for the Continued Investment in Rock Island Arsenal

March 25, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) sent a letter to Army Secretary Driscoll emphasizing the urgent need to support and strengthen Rock Island Arsenal, a cornerstone of the nation’s defense infrastructure and a vital economic engine for the Quad Cities region.

"Rock Island Arsenal plays a preeminent role in our national security," Said Miller-Meeks. "At a time of increasing global threats, we must ensure this critical installation has the workforce, resources, and support necessary to fulfill its mission."

In her letter, Miller-Meeks highlighted the Arsenal’s role as a central hub for the Army Sustainment Command, Army Contracting Command, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as well as its importance in global logistics, procurement, and advanced manufacturing. She noted that the Arsenal’s capabilities, including its leadership in 3D printing and weapons production, are essential to maintaining military readiness and replenishing U.S. stockpiles.

The Congresswoman also underscored the Arsenal’s significance to the regional economy, contributing approximately $1.2 billion annually and employing more than 5,000 workers, many of whom are veterans continuing their service in civilian roles.

"As a 24-year Army veteran and representative of southeast Iowa, I will continue to advocate at the highest levels to ensure Rock Island Arsenal remains strong," Miller-Meeks said. "Its mission is essential to our military readiness and to the communities it supports."

Background:

Miller-Meeks has been a leading advocate for the Arsenal in Congress, touring the facility with Secretary Driscoll and securing commitments from House Appropriations leaders to protect its workforce and operations.

She also led efforts to safeguard key functions, including protecting the Rock Island Arsenal Museum from closure.

Looking ahead, Miller-Meeks reaffirmed her commitment to advancing policies through the National Defense Authorization Act and appropriations process to further strengthen the Arsenal’s capabilities.

"I will keep fighting to ensure Rock Island Arsenal has the support it needs to succeed," she said. "The strength of our military, and our region, depends on it."
