Miller-Meeks Leads Small Business and Manufacturing Roundtable in Davenport

August 19, 2025

DAVENPORT, IA – U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) visited Oertel Metal Works in Davenport for a shop tour and roundtable with employees, underscoring how small business and manufacturing provisions in the reconciliation bill are fueling growth, creating jobs, and strengthening Iowa’s economy.

“Oertel Metal Works is a great example of how small businesses are powering Iowa’s economy and why pro-growth policies matter,” said Miller-Meeks. “Thanks to provisions like 100% immediate expensing for capital investments, the permanent 199A deduction, and relief from overtime taxes, companies like Oertel can continue to invest in state-of-the-art equipment, expand operations, and create good-paying jobs. These are the kinds of policies that make it possible for small businesses to compete, grow, and keep opportunity right here in Iowa.”

Background:

This visit followed Miller-Meeks’ Made in America Manufacturing Tour, where she met with workers and company leaders at Cemen Tech in Indianola, Vermeer in Pella, and SSAB in Muscatine. Across the First District, home to Iowa’s largest concentration of manufacturing, businesses are seeing firsthand the benefits of policies that provide certainty and reward investment.

The reconciliation bill builds on the success of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, locking in pro-growth provisions that allow businesses to reinvest in their operations, expand facilities, and support a highly skilled workforce. By coupling capital cost recovery measures with relief for employees, these reforms are helping both large manufacturers and small businesses compete globally while keeping jobs in Iowa.
