August 26, 2025

LEE COUNTY, IA – U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) met with law enforcement officers and emergency medical service (EMS) leaders in Lee County to discuss how to better support first responders who keep Iowa communities safe.

The conversation focused on recruitment and retention challenges, funding for emergency services, and how provisions in the reconciliation package. including No Tax on Overtime and expanded training support, are directly benefiting first responders across Iowa.

"Hearing directly from Iowa’s law enforcement officers and EMS personnel is essential to ensuring they have the tools and resources they need," said Miller-Meeks. "From tackling recruitment challenges to delivering tax relief on overtime pay and expanding training opportunities, I will always stand with our first responders. They put their lives on the line for us, and I will continue fighting to make sure they are supported."

The meeting builds on Miller-Meeks’ ongoing efforts to back law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel in Southeast Iowa and across the country. By delivering resources and tax relief through reconciliation, Miller-Meeks has worked to strengthen emergency services while keeping the focus on local needs.
