Miller-Meeks Secures Over $3 Million for Southeast Iowa!
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Mariannette Miller‑Meeks (IA‑01) today released the following statement after the Senate passed the appropriations bill she helped advance in the House, sending more than $3 million in federal funding for Southeast Iowa to the President’s desk for signature:
“I’m proud that the appropriations bill we passed in the House has now cleared the Senate and is on its way to the President’s desk, delivering over $3 million in targeted investments for Southeast Iowa,” said Miller‑Meeks. “These funds will support local priorities in Oskaloosa, Muscatine, and Knoxville, strengthening public safety, infrastructure, and community development without raising local taxes. This is exactly the kind of responsible federal investment that drives meaningful results for Iowans.”
The appropriations package includes Community Project Funding (CPF) victories for Iowa’s First District that Miller‑Meeks championed:
- $500,000 for the SAFECity Initiative in Oskaloosa: Led by the Oskaloosa Police Department, this initiative brings advanced public safety technology to the community. It includes license plate recognition systems, new body and in-car cameras, upgraded police facilities, school safety panic buttons, a real-time crime monitoring system, and a search-and-rescue drone. The investment will help prevent crime, improve emergency response, and keep the community safe—all without local tax increases.
- $2,000,000 for the Papoose Creek Redundant Force Main in Muscatine: This project will construct new force main segments to increase wastewater system capacity, reduce combined sewer overflows during heavy rain events, and provide backup infrastructure during maintenance or emergencies.
- $750,000 for the Veterans District Sewer Project in Knoxville: Funding will help build a sanitary lift station and storm and sewer lines to serve over 110 acres of future housing development at the former VA campus, now known as the Veterans District—expanding housing and revitalizing the area.
These investments come in addition to the more than $5 million in Community Project Funding Miller‑Meeks secured for Southeast Iowa that was previously signed into law by President Trump, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to delivering federal resources back to the district.
“Iowans send their tax dollars to Washington to be good stewards of them, and I’m committed to bringing those dollars back home to support priorities that improve lives, grow our economy, and strengthen our communities,” Miller‑Meeks continued. “I will continue working with both the House and Senate to ensure these funds are signed into law swiftly so local leaders can put them to work for the people of Southeast Iowa.”
The President’s signature is anticipated in the coming days.
