Delivering Results

As a doctor, veteran, and proud representative of Iowa’s First Congressional District, I’ve spent three terms in Congress fighting to deliver conservative, common-sense solutions that put people over politics. Whether it’s cutting taxes, securing the border, strengthening our military, or lowering health care costs, I’ve worked every day to honor the trust Iowans placed in me.

We are getting big things done. For Iowa. For our country. For our future.

Across my time in office, I’ve had 14 bills passed through committee, 17 passed through the House, and 5 signed into law. I’ve also helped return over $3.3 million to constituents and resolved over 1,500 federal casework issues. This isn’t politics as usual, it’s about real work, real results, and real accountability.

Delivering President Trump’s Vision: The One Big Beautiful Bill
One of the most consequential legislative achievements of my time in Congress was helping deliver President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill into law. This landmark legislation secures the border, prevents the largest tax hike in history, brings manufacturing back home, delivers new relief to families and seniors, and invests in rural communities like ours.

It reflects the America First agenda I’ve fought for since day one, an agenda rooted in lower taxes, energy independence, strong borders, and respect for working Americans. Signed into law on the Fourth of July, it marks a new era of strength, prosperity, and pride for Iowa and the nation.

  • Prevents the Largest Tax Hike in U.S. History by making the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent for families, farmers, and job creators.
  • Lowers Taxes on Working Iowans by increasing the Child Tax Credit and delivering a $6,000 tax deduction for seniors on fixed incomes.
  • Secures the Border for Good by finishing the wall, ending catch-and-release, and hiring thousands of agents with the tools to stop crime, fentanyl, and chaos.
  • Protects Rural Iowa with $50 billion in new relief for rural hospitals, ensuring small communities can access care close to home.
  • Strengthens and Preserves Medicaid for those it was meant to serve: children, pregnant women, low-income seniors, veterans, and Americans with disabilities.
  • Brings Manufacturing Back Home by restoring full expensing, boosting supply chains, and keeping jobs in the U.S.
  • Unleashes American Energy by removing Biden-era restrictions and restoring energy dominance.

Securing the Border

President Biden created the worst border crisis in American history. By reversing President Trump’s successful border policies on day one, including “Remain in Mexico”, and halting wall construction, Biden and his border czar Kamala Harris opened the floodgates. Over 10 million illegal immigrants have entered our country, fentanyl is pouring in, and violent crime has skyrocketed in communities across the nation.

In stark contrast, President Trump’s return to office brought real leadership and immediate results. Illegal crossings dropped by 95% within weeks of his taking action. And now, with the signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill, we are finishing the wall, ending catch-and-release, hiring thousands of new agents, and giving them the tools they need to defend our country and deport criminals.

As your representative, I’ve helped lead this fight. From voting to impeach Secretary Mayorkas to introducing legislation to finish the wall, I’ve worked every day to secure our border, protect our families, and restore the rule of law.

In order to Secure our Border, I:

  • I voted in favor of H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This bill makes the largest investment in the history of our border security.
  • I voted in favor of the Laken Riley Act, which would require ICE to arrest illegal immigrants who commit burglary, larceny, theft, or shoplifting offenses. We must ensure that what happened to Laken Riley and her family does not happen again to any American citizen. This bill passed the House and was signed into law.
  • I cosponsored H.R. 35, the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act. This bill makes it a crime to intentionally flee a pursuing law enforcement officer. Agent Raul Gonzalez was a border patrol agent who lost his life while pursuing individuals along the border, and this bill honors his memory. This bill passed the House with bipartisan support.
  • I cosponsored H.R. 27, the HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I, allowing law enforcement to keep these dangerous drugs off our streets. This bill passed the House with bipartisan support.
  • I voted in favor of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023. This is the most comprehensive Border Security bill in American history.
  • I introduced the DUMP Opioids Act, which passed the House with bipartisan support and was signed into law.
  • I stood up for women’s safety, voting for H.R. 30, the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, ensuring that aliens convicted of sex offenses will be deemed inadmissible to the United States and will face deportation. This bill passed the House with bipartisan support.
  • I voted to impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his role in orchestrating the worst border crisis in American history.
  • I introduced legislation that would finish border wall construction between the U.S. and Mexico.
  • I led a letter with 62 colleagues to the Department of Homeland Security, pressing for clarity on their plan to handle the repercussions of lifting Title 42, following the Biden Administration's reckless decision.

Combating Inflation by Unleashing American Energy

Iowans are paying more and getting less, and that’s no accident. It’s the cost of Biden’s war on American energy. I’ve fought back with real solutions to lower costs, unleash our energy potential, and put working families first. Now, we are turning the tide. From protecting ethanol to restoring oil and gas production, we’re putting American energy, and Iowa’s future, back in our hands.

In order to promote American Energy Independence, I:

  • I cosponsored H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, which aims to end restrictions on energy production, promote domestic mineral production and streamline permitting processes. This bill passed the House with bipartisan support.
  • I led my colleagues in ensuring that hydraulic fracturing (fracking) cannot be banned in the United States; American energy should remain in American hands, and fracking produces affordable energy and strengthens our national security. This bill passed the House with bipartisan support.
  • I led efforts to allow the sale of E15 fuel in Iowa and around the nation.
  • I voted in favor of H.R. 7176, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2024. This bill repeals restrictions on the import and export of natural gas implemented by the Biden Administration. This bill passed the House with bipartisan support.
  • I introduced the Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act, legislation that passed the House with bipartisan support and directs the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study on the feasibility of manufacturing more goods in the United States, in particular, products that are key to our critical infrastructure sectors.
  • I introduced the Refrigerator Freedom Act, legislation that passed the House and limits the Department of Energy’s authority to implement ‘Green New Deal’ regulations on refrigerators.
  • I stood against the Biden Administrations egregious Electric Vehicle Mandate that would force Americans' to ditch their gas powered vehicles in favor of EV’s. Americans should have choice.

Lowering Drug Costs & Increasing Accessibility to Quality Care

As a physician in Congress and as the former Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health, I know how crucial it is that people receive the care they need at an affordable cost. That is why I have been hard at work in Congress to lower drug prices.

Here is a list of bills I worked on that lower drug costs:

  • I introduced H.R. 4758, the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act: A bipartisan bill passed by the House to reduce barriers for children with complex medical conditions, facilitating access to out-of-state care by streamlining the Medicaid provider enrollment process.
  • I introduced H.R. 8111, the Medicaid Program Improvement Act: A bipartisan bill passed by the House to enhance the accuracy of address information for Medicaid beneficiaries, ensuring uninterrupted access to healthcare services.
  • I introduced H.R. 6283, the DRUG Act: a bill that aims to promote transparency and fairness in the operations of pharmacy benefit managers (PBM's) to improve access to affordable prescription drugs for consumers.
  • I cosponsored H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act, a bill that prevents further cuts to Medicare, protecting seniors’ access to quality care and ensuring Medicare remains viable for both patients and doctors.
  • I supported the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The bill guarantees that infants born alive during or after an abortion or attempted abortion will receive the same rights, privileges, and protection of law as any newborn. This bill has passed the House.
  • I introduced H.R. 9479: a bill that would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to establish a refundable credit of up to $30,000 for expenses incurred for in vitro fertilization (IVF).
  • I introduced the Share the Savings with Seniors Act: a bill that lowers out-of-pocket drug costs for our seniors with chronic medical conditions.
  • I introduced the Biologics Competition Act: a bill that focuses on lowering drug costs by directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to evaluate the approval process for interchangeable biological products in pharmaceuticals.
  • I introduced the DMEPOS Relief Act of 2023: a bill that lowers costs by establishing blended payment rates for durable medical equipment, ensuring affordability and accessibility for patients.
  • I introduced the Alternatives to PAIN Act: a bill aimed at enhancing access to affordable, non-opioid treatments for pain management among seniors

Standing up for our Nation’s Heroes

Before my time in Congress, I dedicated 24 years to serving our country in the Army, rising from Private to Lieutenant Colonel. This journey instilled in me a deep commitment to ensuring that every active servicemember and veteran receives the support they deserve. I have consistently fought for better military pay and improved VA care, advocating for the brave men and women who protect our freedoms.

Because of this unwavering commitment, I was recently honored to be named Legislator of the Year by the Wounded Warrior Project. This recognition underscores the importance of the work we do together to support our nation’s heroes, and I will continue to champion their needs, ensuring they receive the care and respect they have earned.

  • I introduced the No Wrong Door for Veterans Act: A bill that seeks to reauthorize and enhance the Sergeant Gordon Parker Fox Suicide Prevention Act by increasing funding, standardizing mental health screening, and expanding access to care for veterans through various organizations and telehealth services.
  • I cosponsored H.R. 472, the Restore VA Accountability Act of 2025, which would strengthen accountability at the VA, giving them the authority to hold poor-performing employees accountable, making sure that veterans receive the high-quality care they deserve.
  • I introduced the Veteran Care Improvement Act: a bill that would continue to make the VA healthcare system more accessible and accountable to those in need of its services."
  • I introduced the Veterans Care Act: a bill that requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to conduct and support research on the efficacy and safety of certain forms of cannabis and cannabis delivery for veterans enrolled in the VA health care system and diagnosed with conditions such as chronic pain or post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • I championed the SERVICE Act: a bill that would direct the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide mammogram screening for female veterans who served in areas associated with burn pits and other toxic exposure. This bill passed the House and was signed into law.
  • I introduced the MAMMO for Veterans Act: a bill that would require the VA to develop a strategic plan to enhance breast imaging services, create a telemammography pilot program in areas lacking in-house services, and expand veterans' access to clinical trials through partnerships with the National Cancer Institute.
  • I voted in favor of the largest military pay raise in 20 years.
  • I cosponsored the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare & Benefits Improvement Act: A bill that passed the House and will enhance care for our veterans, expand opportunities, and support their caregivers.
  • I introduced the Veterans SPORT Act: A bill that will amend title 38, United States Code, to include adaptive prostheses and terminal devices for sports and other recreational activities in the medical services furnished to eligible veterans by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
