Miller-Meeks Leading Fight to Pay Troops During Democrat Government Shutdown

October 9, 2025

IOWA– Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), a 24-year Army Veteran, is leading legislation in Congress to ensure troops continue receiving pay during the government shutdown.

"Thousands of military families are living paycheck to paycheck while selflessly defending our country and they deserve to be paid to support themselves and their families," said Miller-Meeks. "Democrats have abandoned the men and women who defend our freedom, all to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants and to add $1.5 trillion in new spending."

The Democrats have refused to reopen the government 6 times and said that missed paychecks for U.S. troops won't be enough to end the shutdown alone. Congresswoman Miller-Meeks has co-sponsored the Pay Our Troops Act to make sure our hardworking military troops get paid on time during a government shutdown like they deserve.

Background On the Pay Our Troops Act

The Pay Our Troops Act

  • Provides continuing appropriations for military pay for any period during which interim or full-year appropriations for FY2026 are not in effect (i.e., a government shutdown)

To help support service members and their families during the Democrat Government Shutdown, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks cosponsored this crucial legislation.

This bill is also cosponsored by Iowa Representatives Zach Nunn, Randy Feenstra, and Ashley Hinson.
