WASHINGTON DC – Today, Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) celebrated the 249th birthday of the United States Army on the House Floor. A video of the speech is available here. Shortly after, Rep. Miller-Meeks voted in favor of H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025, which passed the House and provides the troops with a historic pay raise.
Background on FY25 NDAA
Every year, Congress must pass a new National Defense Authorization Act. It’s one of the few bills that must be signed into law annually. This year's focus is on strengthening defense against domestic and foreign threats while improving the quality of life for those in uniform.
This year’s NDAA will:
- Provide a 19.5% pay raise for junior servicemembers and a 4.5% raise for all other servicemembers
- Provide our troops with expanded access to health and childcare
- Improve housing conditions
- Equip our military with the tools and resources to counter threats from Communist China
- Fully fund National Guard troops to secure the southern border
- Rein in funding for wasteful, inefficient programs in the DoD and the Pentagon
