Ottumwa City Council to vote on regional office for Miller-Meeks

March 15, 2021

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Solving issues with federal agencies like taxes, veteran healthcare, or passports could get easier with a vote coming up in Tuesday’s Ottumwa City Council meeting.

A passed vote would see a regional office established for Representative Marianette Miller-Meeks.

The lease is for these Offices 201A and 201B in City Hall.

The offices still have items in them from the previous tenant, but the City Administrator says once a vote passes they can have the offices ready within a week.

This would be the first Ottumwa regional office for a representative in 15 years.

The City Administrator says there’s several advantages for the city of having a regional office.

”We have direct access to the federal government. Maybe some things maybe we can hear, get a direct pipeline to what’s going on in the community. And hear things that are federal and outside the community concerns. There’s some real advantages.”

In a statement to KYOU, Miller-Meeks’ office says she’s excited to open up the office:

“I am looking forward to opening a constituent service center in Ottumwa in the coming weeks! Having an office in the southern part of our district will give residents easier access to receive the help they need with veteran healthcare, taxes, passports, or any issues with federal agencies.”

Having an office in the area would help residents get easier access to federal agencies.

This would the first regional office Miller-Meeks has.

However, the vote still has to pass in the City Council. They’ll hold the vote Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
