WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Iowa’s Congressional delegation urged U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to expand eligibility of the department’s COVID-19 relief programs to include custom cattle feeders, a sector of Iowa’s agricultural economy operated primarily by family farmers.
Vilsack, the former Governor of Iowa and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under the Obama administration, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Tuesday by a 92 to 7 vote.
Iowa community health centers, which reach underserved and vulnerable populations, should be included in the Biden administration’s distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, Iowa’s House delegation, including Rep. Cindy Axne, D-3rd, said in a letter to federal health officials.
The “oversight” of omitting Iowa’s community health centers from the 25-center pilot project can be rectified by including the state community health centers in the next round of direct vaccination support to the 250 federally qualified health centers, the legislators wrote.
