Miller-Meeks Introduces Legislation to Honor the American Flag

July 9, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, July 9th, 2021, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) introduced the Flag Standardization Act. This legislation would specify the types of flags that may be flown on federal property.

“The American flag is more than just a flag; it is a symbol of freedom and democracy. The stars and stripes stand as a reminder to never forget the men and women who gave their lives defending the values we hold dear,” said Miller-Meeks. “For 24 years, I served under the American flag as an enlisted servicemember and an officer, as active duty and a reservist, and retired from the Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. Every time I face the flag with my hand over my heart, I remember all of my fellow servicemembers who have fought to protect our way of life and keep the American Dream alive. I am proud to introduce the Flag Standardization Act to honor the flag that means so much to this country.”
