Miller-Meeks Provides Update on District Vaccine Tour

OTTUMWA, I.A.—Today, April 9th, 2021, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) provided an update about her vaccine tour of Iowa’s Second Congressional District.
As of today, Miller-Meeks has visited COVID-19 vaccination sites in 21 of the 24 counties in the Second District and administered COVID-19 vaccines in the majority of counties. Miller-Meeks has visited Appanoose, Clarke, Clinton, Decatur, Des Moines, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, Wapello, Washington, and Wayne Counties.
“It has been great to travel the district, speak with my constituents and even administer COVID-19 vaccines! As a licensed physician and former Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health, treating patients and caring for the health and safety of Iowans is my passion, and I enjoyed using this recess to get back to my patient care roots,” said Miller-Meeks. “I consider it a personal mission, a personal responsibility as a doctor, a military veteran, and Congresswoman, to get people vaccinated. I look forward to continuing and completing my tour of the district as soon as possible.”
“We really appreciate Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks attending as well as participating in our recent COVID-19 vaccination clinic,” said Kristopher Laurson, Administrator of Appanoose County Public Health. “Mariannette Miller-Meeks is a fantastic COVID-19 vaccine ambassador, with her background as a physician and former director of IDPH, she knows and understands the complexities of our role in getting this vaccine out to the public. I have no doubt she will continue to promote and support our local communities in this struggle until we can move on from this terrible virus.”
“I am pleased that Representative Miller-Meeks has taken time out of her busy schedule to stop by our Moderna Covid vaccination clinic at JBS in Ottumwa on March 12,” said Lynelle Diers, Administrator of Wapello County Public Health. “She was able to join our staff in administering vaccines to one of JBS’ employees. I appreciate her expertise and support of the vaccination campaign being done in Wapello County by local public health, pharmacies, and clinics.”
“Dr. Miller-Meeks visited Wayne County Public Health COVID vaccination clinic on Wednesday, April 7th, 2021, at 10 am. She visited with staff and volunteer staff and patrons who were receiving their vaccine,” said Shelley Bickel, Administrator of Wayne County Public Health. “Patrons were very impressed that she took the time to come to Corydon, Iowa, a very small rural south Iowa county at the Missouri border. She also gave a shot to a patron and talked to them as well. Her presence and support for local public health’s especially rural departments really impressed everyone present. We thank her for her support.”
Miller-Meeks has made plans to visit the final three counties, Cedar, Davis, and Henry, when the House recesses, which is scheduled to begin on April 23rd.
