Miller-Meeks Urges President Biden to Keep Promises to Biofuels Producers

September 22, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, September 22nd, 2021, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) joined a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to keep his promises on upholding the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) by not decimating the demand for billions of gallons of ethanol.

“Then-candidate Biden made numerous promises to biofuels producers that he would support their livelihoods and uphold the RFS. I am disappointed to see his Administration has begun to make decisions that would be counter to his previous commitments,” said Miller-Meeks. “Biofuels are incredibly important to Iowa’s economy, putting money in the pockets of our producers and creating countless jobs across our state. My colleagues and I in the bipartisan Biofuels Caucus will continue to fight to ensure that our energy sector continues to use biofuels to end our dependence on foreign energy, diversify our energy usage, become more environmentally friendly, and create good-paying jobs.”

In their letter, the members highlighted that while running for President, President Biden stated that President Trump’s RFS waivers were “harmful” and called for “setting strong (Renewable Volumes Obligation) levels for 2021.” Now, it is again being reported that President Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is “considering big cuts to biofuel blending mandates for 2020, 2021, and 2022.” This past June, it was reported the Biden Administration was “considering ways to provide relief to U.S. oil refiners from biofuel blending mandates.”

This letter was signed by Reps. Rodney Davis (IL-13), Adrian Smith (NE-03), Dusty Johnson (SD-00), Ashely Hinson (IA-01), Randy Feenstra (IA-04), Michelle Fischbach (MN-07), Darin LaHood (IL-18), Tom Emmer (MN-06), Ann Wagner (MO-02), Tracey Mann (KS-01), Jim Hagedorn (MN-01), Vicky Hartzler (MO-04), James Comer (KY-01), Ron Estes (KS-04), Jake LaTurner (KS-02), Jim Baird (IN-04), Adam Kinzinger (IL-16), Sam Graves (MO-06), Don Bacon (NE-02), Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03), and Mike Bost (IL-12).
