Miller-Meeks Votes to Protect Women’s Sports

January 14, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) took a strong stand for fairness and common sense by voting for H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls Sports Act of 2025. This critical legislation prohibits biological males from competing in women’s sports, ensuring that female athletes have a level playing field.

“For years, the radical left has waged an all-out assault on women’s sports and spaces,” said Miller-Meeks. “I will not stand by while they undermine the integrity of female athletics. Our daughters deserve a fair and level playing field, and this bill ensures they get it. I look forward to its swift passage in the Senate and being signed into law by President Trump.”

Background:

The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 amends the Education Amendments of 1972 to ensure that athletic participation is based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth. The bill prohibits biological males from competing in women’s sports, aiming to preserve fairness and equal opportunities for female athletes. Additionally, the bill mandates a study to assess the impact of male participation on female athletes' psychological and social well-being.

The Protection of Women’s Sports Act was first introduced in the 118th Congress by Rep. Greg Steube (FL-17), with Rep. Miller-Meeks serving as an original cosponsor of the bill. The bill passed the House by a vote of 219-203, with 203 Democrats voting against it.
