Miller-Meeks, Dingell Reintroduce Bipartisan Medicaid Program Improvement Act

February 5, 2025

Bill Tackles Medicaid Fraud, Promotes Uninterrupted Care for Patients

Washington D.C. – Today, U.S. Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D. (R-IA) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI) introduced the bipartisan Medicaid Program Improvement Act, which would improve the accuracy and reliability of address information for Medicaid beneficiaries, ensuring seamless access to healthcare services for millions of Americans.

“The Medicaid Program Improvement Act is a significant victory for individuals who rely on Medicaid for their health care,” said Congresswoman Miller-Meeks. “By improving the processes for verifying and updating address information, we are safeguarding program integrity and ensuring that beneficiaries receive the uninterrupted care they need. I thank Rep. Dingell and our colleagues for their support in advancing this crucial legislation.”

“Medicaid provides health care for millions of Americans, including children, and it’s critical we keep it running effectively.” said Congresswoman Dingell. “This bipartisan bill makes sure Medicaid beneficiaries’ personal information remains accurate and up to date to ensure seamless access to the services they depend on. Verifying and updating address information may seem basic, but is necessary to provide timely and accurate care.”

Background:

The Medicaid Program Improvement Act tackles a crucial issue: outdated or inaccurate address information can cause beneficiaries to be enrolled in multiple state Medicaid programs, disrupting their access to essential healthcare services. This legislation amends Title XIX of the Social Security Act, mandating that state Medicaid programs implement a regular process for verifying and updating beneficiary address information. By doing so, it ensures that individuals maintain their eligibility for services without unnecessary interruptions, providing vital support to those who rely on these programs.

In 2024, the House passed the Medicaid Program Improvement Act before it stalled in the Senate.
