Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) announced Annika Hicks of Cardinal High School in Eldon as the winner of the Second Congressional District’s 2022 Art Competition. Hicks’ piece, “Kgerald”, is a watercolor painting of a koi fish and will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

When Army Capt. John Raaen, Jr. reached the shores of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944, it was already a scene of chaos.

D-Day was the first day of combat for the 22-year-old from Fort Benning, Georgia, who followed in his father's footsteps into the military.

It was also a moment that Raaen was specially trained for as a US Army Ranger.
