As a physician in Congress and as the former Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health, I know how crucial it is that people receive the care they need at an affordable cost. That is why I have been hard at work in Congress to lower drug prices.
Here is a list of bills I worked on that lower drug cost:
- I introduced H.R. 4758, the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act: A bipartisan bill passed by the House to reduce barriers for children with complex medical conditions, facilitating access to out-of-state care by streamlining the Medicaid provider enrollment process.
- I introduced H.R. 8111, the Medicaid Program Improvement Act: A bipartisan bill passed by the House to enhance the accuracy of address information for Medicaid beneficiaries, ensuring uninterrupted access to healthcare services.
- I introduced H.R. 6283, the DRUG Act: a bill that aims to promote transparency and fairness in the operations of pharmacy benefit managers (PBM's) to improve access to affordable prescription drugs for consumers.
- I cosponsored H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act, a bill that prevents further cuts to Medicare, protecting seniors’ access to quality care and ensuring Medicare remains viable for both patients and doctors.
- I supported the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The bill guarantees that infants born alive during or after an abortion or attempted abortion will receive the same rights, privileges, and protection of law as any newborn. This bill has passed the House.
- I introduced H.R. 9479: a bill that would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to establish a refundable credit of up to $30,000 for expenses incurred for in vitro fertilization (IVF).
- I introduced the Share the Savings with Seniors Act: a bill that lowers out-of-pocket drug costs for our seniors with chronic medical conditions.
- I introduced the Biologics Competition Act: a bill that focuses on lowering drug costs by directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to evaluate the approval process for interchangeable biological products in pharmaceuticals.
- I introduced the DMEPOS Relief Act of 2023: a bill that lowers costs by establishing blended payment rates for durable medical equipment, ensuring affordability and accessibility for patients.
- I introduced the Alternatives to PAIN Act: a bill aimed at enhancing access to affordable, non-opioid treatments for pain management among seniors.
