It was one of her usual community stops to touch base with constituents for Congresswoman Marianette Millers-Meeks, but Fort Madison Mayor Matt Mohrfeld wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to tout his marina project.

“There’s no way I’m going to get this many people in one room and not talk about the marina,” he told her and a dozen representatives from local business, industry, schools and government.

Colonel and member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, introduced a bipartisan resolution to honor the women who served in World War II and recognize the role of former Representative Edith Nourse Rogers in establishing the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and the Women’s Army Corps (WAC).

CLINTON — Before U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks could sit down for a late lunch at Homer’s Deli, she was reminded of Clinton County’s desire for a four-lane U.S. 30.

Clinton County Supervisor Tom Determann and State Sen. Chris Cournoyer, R-LeClaire, reiterated what numerous supporters and commissions have told the state for years: that the state would benefit from making U.S. 30 four lanes across Iowa.

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks toured the newly restored Mariposa Lake on May 27 and also visited with Jasper County Conservation staff who recently learned their pursuits to receive congressional district dollars to complete the Red Rock Prairie Trail “is moving forward” in the process.

Jasper County Conservation Director Keri Van Zante said a certain number of projects were chosen to move forward, one of which was the completed connection of the trail between Prairie City and Mitchellville. Her department asked for $900,000 in grant funding.

(KWWL) -- Friday, May 28, Senator Joni Ernst and Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, along with Colorado Representative Jason Crow and Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth, introduced a bipartisan resolution to honor WWII Army Rangers with the Congressional Gold Medal.

The bill passed the Senate unanimously last Congress.
