Miller-Meeks Secures $1 Million for North River Drive Connector in Clinton

February 13, 2026

CLINTON, IA – Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks today announced $1 million in Community Project Funding she secured for the North River Drive Connector Project in Clinton has been signed into law.

The project will construct a 1.5-mile north-south roadway linking downtown Clinton to the Lyons Business District along the Mississippi River levee. The new connector will restore access between neighborhoods and commercial areas impacted decades ago when the Main Avenue bridge was relocated.

“Clinton’s North River Drive Connector is about reconnecting a community and unlocking new opportunity,” said Miller-Meeks. “From my earliest conversations with local leaders, it was clear this was a priority project with strong community support. I worked to ensure it received the federal backing it deserves, and I’m proud to have delivered this investment.”

The roadway will enhance connectivity, improve access to riverfront businesses, and support continued economic growth in Clinton County.

“The City of Clinton appreciates Representative Miller-Meeks for securing federal funding to support continued study of the proposed North River Drive Project. This funding will allow the City to further evaluate the feasibility, costs, and potential impacts of the concept. Local business owners traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the project and express their interest in exploring this idea.” - Jason Craft, PE, City Engineer for the City of Clinton

“We are extremely happy to receive this CPF Grant from Representative Miller Meeks. This will definitely boost the economic development on the east end of Main Avenue that was devastated when the bridge was moved. It not only restores the Lyons Business district but also opens up the Mississippi River to our entire community. As a long-time resident of the city of Clinton, I appreciate not only this grant but also the support that she has given Clinton in the past.” - Brenda Thornton, longtime Clinton resident and small business owner

"Thank you to Congresswoman Miller-Meeks for prioritizing projects that create growth for Clinton. She is demonstrating how to support cooperation that will bring unified support from the local, state and federal government to create this project that will positively impact the entire Clinton community." - Dennis Lauver, Clinton Resident and business leader
