Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) released the following statement after introducing an amendment to H.R. 8294 - Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2023, prohibiting funds to draw down and sell petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to the People’s Republic of China.

Several House Republicans sent a letter to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calling on the agency to release the 2021 child suicide data.

Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., led the letter with 19 of his lower chamber GOP colleagues to CDC Director Rochelle Walensky asking the agency to publish the still-unreleased data.

Bipartisan legislation offered by U.S. Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) seeks to end a gap in federal law that allows the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to conceal its role in American lobbying efforts.

“Iowans have a right to know who is funding efforts to influence their government officials,” Rep. Miller-Meeks said. “For too long, the Chinese Communist Party has taken advantage of loopholes in federal law to push their agenda, and that is unacceptable.”

U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) on June 24 led eight Republicans in introducing legislation that would terminate certain contracts related to the construction of the border fence at America’s border with Mexico and transfer unused fencing material to the states along the southwest border. 

States then would be permitted to use such materials for the purpose of barrier construction along the international border between the United States and Mexico.
