WASHINGTON – This week, U.S. Senators Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, joined Iowa’s Republican U.S. Reps. Ashley Hinson (IA 01), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA 02), and Randy Feenstra (IA 04) in urging President Joe Biden to uphold his promise to support biofuels.

Sens. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Reps. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa; Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa; and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, sent a letter to President Biden on May 25 urging him to uphold his promise to support biofuels.

The letter urges the Biden administration to include biofuels in any final legislative proposal for infrastructure investments. “Biofuels are a proven climate solution that can provide a cost-effective way to lower greenhouse gas emissions while providing good jobs for rural America,” the lawmakers wrote.

I think we can all agree that the internet has become an essential part of our lives.

The increased accessibility of the internet has allowed doctors to reach patients, friends to reconnect, given our students more opportunities to learn, and workers more opportunities to live in rural America while working anywhere.

A recent report from the Federal Communications Commission stated that 97% of Americans in urban areas have access to high-speed fixed internet services. That number drops to 65% in rural America, which is unacceptable.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to advance Rep. Cindy Axne’s (IA-03) bipartisan legislation to expand mental health care for rural veterans.

The Sgt. Ketchum Rural Veterans’ Mental Health Act, named in memory of Iowa Sgt. Brandon Ketchum of Davenport, establishes new Rural Access Network for Growth Enhancement (RANGE) programs through the VA and supports additional research on rural veteran mental health care needs.

Military veterans living in rural areas in Iowa and beyond may see greater access to mental health care through a bill making its way through Congress just ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

On Tuesday, the U.S. House passed a bill that would require the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to spend more than a million dollars each year to fund the creation of additional mental health care outreach teams to serve veterans outside of cities and to research the VA's effectiveness with those rural veterans.
